I grew up competing in every sport I could sign up for, but my passion was racing motocross. I have always desired to race hard and push my boundaries. Most importantly, I grew up racing and competing without the limitations of being a girl. I was taught to focus on my own performance, and not let the gender of my opponents change how I showed up for a race. As I became more competitive, I learned how being a girl in a male-dominated sport impacted the ways other viewed me and judged my performance. I was no longer just fast....I was fast "for a girl." Now I compete in cycling and triathlon. And we are taught those same lessons....there are gaps between the capabilities of men and women. I strive to bridge that gap when I train...working to create environments of equality. I have found an amazing community that thrives in this mentality and focuses on building stronger athletes as a collective. Not defined by their gender.
