I ran cross country and track competitively in high school before later “discovering” triathlon while studying Finance and Real Estate at the University of Wisconsin. Something about the long-term commitment, no short-cuts approach, immediately drew me to training and racing Ironman. I wanted to pursue something I wasn’t entirely sure I could accomplish (at least without paying my dues first). It would not be about immediate gratification or staying in the “comfort zone” where success is almost a given. After volunteering for Ironman Wisconsin and witnessing the challenge and excitement first-hand, my interest solidified into a life-long passion. This new journey opened up a whole new world of experiences, allowing me to meet many incredible people, build lasting friendships and meet my future wife!
I proposed to my fiancée, Evelyn Werking (also a Castelli teammate), after her incredible finish at the 2019 Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Nice, France. We were lucky enough to be able to share the experience with some of our incredible Castelli teammates including Chris Bancroft who, using his expert photography skills, documented the entire proposal.
Evelyn works as a Speech Pathologist at Burleigh Elementary. I work in Commercial Real Estate, switching between the valuation, development, and investment fields. Together, we enjoy coaching girls' distance track and field at Brookfield East High School (our alma mater).
We love hiking, biking, swimming, running, skiing- pretty much all things outdoors- around our beautiful home state, Wisconsin.
We also love cross country road trips or "train-cations", especially visiting Michael and Briana Boehmer, some fellow Castelli Team members in Boulder, Co. Wherever we travel, you will likely find us sampling the best of the local cuisine or cooking up some fresh, local produce.
We recently got a new Golden Retriever puppy named Magnolia (after one of our favorite places to run in Colorado!)
In training this year, I have focused more on running, gaining a newfound love and appreciation for the hilly, wooded landscapes of the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin and the endless breathtaking views (literally) and challenging terrain of the Rocky & Appalachian mountains.
