My athletic background started at an early age (4 years) with cross country skiing back in the Midwest. I took to running and was the leader of my HS cross country team. I also started racing road and mountain bikes as well as growing into a competitive triathlete (that swim was always hard!). Additionally I picked up windsurfing and rock climbing so enjoyed a wide collection of sports. I continued running into college and was a varsity runner in cross country all four years. Post-collegiately I set goals to become an elite runner but ultimately did not reach my goal of reaching the Olympic marathon trial standard but loved every foot fall in the journey.
My marathon PR of 2:29 came in Portland (1997) and also reached 1:07 in the half marathon the following year Once I reached my high water marks in running, I set my sights on nordic ski racing with XC Oregon Nordic Ski Team and gathered a fair number of podiums over the years amongst a long list of talented racers. It helped training the XC Oregon team and at time with Canadian gold medalist Becky Scott and US Olympian Justin Wadsworth as well as other national caliber racers.
In the warm months I pursued my passion for Windsurfing and earned a National Championship in the Open Class division after a brutal week of racing in Hood River, OR. It was great, tight racing all the way to the end of the series and great accomplishment having missed the podium in San Francisco a year earlier.
Fast forward to age 35, I began to gain interest in motorcycling and after several years of consistent growth became a track day instructor for the last 10 years.
Throughout this time I have always enjoyed cycling with ah on and off again focus on racing. I am now returning to cycling as my core focus. I have ridden the Baker City Cycling Classic in the past and various local races on road and dirt. Last year I began racing gravel and will continue there adding more road specific events.
